What a wild adventure! In March, I spent a long weekend in the Northwest Territories of Canada, where Yellowknife gave us four nights of all-sky Aurora in a row.
I traveled to 62.4° North among friends and family of friends, in an all-women, five-person crew. We caught four nights of all-sky Aurora, and two nights of prolonged corona bursting overhead! Known as “the Aurora Capital of the World,” I highly recommend Yellowknife to any Northern Lights enthusiast, and you can even go in the fall, beginning in mid-August. My trip was a bit cooler — I went in the depth of winter!
In the most memorable part of the adventure, we visited the ice roads on the last day of the trip, in the company of a marvelous aurora tour guide from Dancing Skies, Canada. Late that night, he and I adventured out onto the ice roads in the darkness, and just after 3am in the morning, the northern skies exploded with Aurora overhead. It was the coolest! Not only figuratively, but literally: we endured a temperature of -36°F, the coldest weather I have ever experienced.
Heartfelt thanks to Cristiano Saturno, for capturing this moment when we stood under the Aurora!

Super coo!! What great sights to behold. Beautiful photos.
