Over the years, I’ve learned just how much focus, study and perseverance it takes to write a novel. It’s an art and a craft that takes years, or even decades, to master.

The best written lines come out of careful creativity, and the best published words appear on the page only after the writer has cultivated a heart of steel — persisting despite rejection letter after rejection letter. It’s a testament to our devotion as writers. We have to overcome not only our own doubts, but also a world of obstacles that await us at every turn.

Fierce competition. Intense criticism. Sharp editing. Tireless pitching. Mercurial markets.

Authors are not created overnight. With the ever-evolving world we live in and the ever-changing landscape of the publishing industry, it takes time for us to work toward our debut.

That’s why it was a huge relief to me when I finally realized publishing is a journey, not a destination. I have been sharing my own story along my path to publication for many years now. With one arrow always pointed straight at its target, I’ve learned to carry a full quiver with me as I embark on my writing adventures. And I’m excited to keep aiming for greater targets.
