Breathe…

We are living in strange times. I’m finding I need to remind myself to breathe. Maybe others need this reminder, too. So, I built a little webpage — a tiny corner of solace. Like a cascade of supportive thoughts, flowing onto one digital page, where I can go to feel the current flowing…

I will revisit it often.

Rise up!

We march across the country on June 14th!

Our Nation Is In Distress

Never have so many people reached out to me individually to ask what I think, to share their concerns, to invite me to protests, to thank me for having a loud voice. Americans, those of us who see how history is repeating itself, are alarmed.

Our democracy can’t be allowed to fall. And yet, the people in this country are living in completely different realities, as the bias in our media is leveraged for fear-mongering, manipulation and control. It’s happening everywhere, on every side of the political aisle.

I don’t want to get into the details, here. I’m no expert on Constitutional Law. What I am, though, is a community leader, a peaceful conversationalist, and a trained journalist — who now works as a marketing manager and science communicator at a major research university.

Who I hope to be is a beacon of light and hope, and a source of inspiration to take action.

Breathe & Meditate

A dear friend of mine put it best, when she told me recently that “We can’t fight from a place of neglect.” That means I need to get off the couch and shower. I need to stop letting my energy run out. I need to both devote time to taking meaningful action, and time to caring for myself and spreading compassion and love, even inward.

“Breathe” erupted out of this notion. This corner of my website includes gentle reminders, important images to share, reminders of the virtues that are on the right side of history — and ideas for ways to take action, if you can.

I’m also changing how I live daily life. I expanded my boycott of major corporations, which I’ve done for many years, to eliminate all spending on Amazon, and I will be removing projects they directly benefit from. I began watching “The Handmaid’s Tale” to understand what all the hype is about, to try to get into the psyche of toxic masculinity and misogyny. I spent a lot of money at my favorite woman-owned business supporting the resistance. I will be spending more money in Canada than I had originally planned.

I’m transitioning my Facebook content to Substack. JOIN ME!

I’m writing short posts on BlueSky. We cannot let social media own us and manipulate us through politically motivated algorithms. Meta has become a corrupt and dangerous place. I’m letting my presence on X decline, but not before my progressive voice is heard. I’m watching for a replacement for Instagram. I’m leaning in to my resolution to be more expressive, and sharing stories of courage and vulnerability. A vote for a more compassionate future. I’ll be adding science and our dependence on federal government services to my public speaking gigs.

But we have to remember to breathe.

So, here’s a taste of freedom in pristine, oxygen-rich air, surrounded by our national forests and protected by conservation efforts. This is a reminder of who we are.

Stay strong. Don’t lose hope. Resist. And please feel free to find ideas or peace in this little corner of the internet.

Thank you to all of the courageous voices who are standing up for our freedoms.
